How to Networking During Workshops

By NETWORK. LEAD. EXCHANGE.

Workshops are great places to learn more about people and businesses. Network Lead Exchange explains how to use networking skills to form connections at all types of workshops.

Workshops are fantastic events for professionals to learn new skills or sharpen an existing skill set. However, many people are interested in workshop networking but don’t have the tools to do so. The good news is there are plenty of ways to network during workshops. The most important thing to do with any networking at workshops is to be authentic. Without authenticity, nothing else is possible.

Use the Breaks Productively

There are always breaks at a workshop, so take advantage of this downtime. Try to talk to different people during these breaks. A great icebreaker is giving positive feedback to any comments during the previous session. This validates the other person and is a good way to put the other person at ease. Similarly, another icebreaker could be communicating with someone who seemed to understand the session and asking for clarification. The breaks are ideal times for networking.

Participate

An easy way to network is to participate in the workshop. Don’t be a wallflower, instead add to the quality of the event. At the same time, be judicious. Don’t throw everything at the wall and hope something sticks. The goal is to be perceived as a thoughtful, not a blowhard. Add to the session, and there will be participants striking up conversations during the breaks.

Speak with the Facilitator

The person facilitating the workshop is a valuable person to network with. These people generally have plenty of contacts and knowledge. A great way to break the ice is asking questions, complimenting the presentation, or seeking additional clarification. Stay in touch with the facilitator – a great way is through LinkedIn. Also, do homework prior to the workshop. Read the facilitator’s content and be ready for the presentation.
